NOIDA: While residents of Sector 47 complain of a blocked sewer line in their locality, Noida Authority is all set to open a Rs 4.26 crore tender for the job on Wednesday and expects the work to begin by mid-October.
Nearly 5,000 residents of the area are affected by the backflow of water from the blocked sewers to the washrooms and streets. They allege that the issue has been there since the past three years and many petitions have been filed to Noida Authority, all in vain.
"We are seeing this blocked sewer line in our sector since 2019. About one km of this line is blocked as it has not only become old but also insufficient to bear the load, including that of surrounding areas. The blocked sewers lead to backflow of dirty, foul smelling water into our washrooms as well as on the streets wherever there are cracks in sewer covers on the road," said Anup Rai, RWA general secretary, Sector 47.
When contacted, Rajesh Gautam, assistant project engineer (Jal) Noida Authority told TOI that the tender for laying a new sewer line for the sector will be opened on Wednesday. "If all criteria are found to be okay, we will take about 10 days to complete the financial agreement. We expect work to begin by mid-October," Gautam said.
