Elderly couple hacked to death by helper in Gumla

Gumla: An elderly couple was hacked to death and their son and daughter critically injured at Jamtoli village under Raidih police station area in Gumla on Monday night, police said on Tuesday. The accused was arrested on Monday night.
The deceased were identified as Richard Minj (60) and his wife Milyani Minj (56) while the injured are their son Gulson Minj (30) and daughter Teresa Minj (20). Accused Satendra Lakra (40) also tried to attack his mother but she escaped.
Accused Lakra, a native of the same village, was residing in the house of the deceased along with his mother for the past one year to help them in their farm works and cattle grazing activities.
“On Monday night, all were in a drunken state and sleeping in a single room. The accused suddenly woke up and attacked the elderly couple with an axe, leading to their deaths. The others sustained injuries,” the officer in-charge of Raidih police station, Amit Kumar, said.
The accused was caught by villagers when he was trying to flee. They thrashed him before handing him over to the police.
Injured Teresa was referred to Rims in Ranchi, while Gulson sustained minor injuries on the hand.
OC Kumar said, “Accused Lakra tried to attack his mother too, but she managed escape.”
Accused Lakra said, “I consumed liquor with uncle (Richard) in the evening. Gulson had threatened me two days ago, stating that he will kill me. So, I killed them,” he told police.
