The Congress will start its 3,570-km-long Bharat Jodo Yatra from Kanyakumari on Wednesday, to communicate directly with the public on various issues and to launch a campaign against the central government. The purpose of this party's visit is to strengthen itself in the battle of ideas.

Former party president Rahul Gandhi will begin the yatra after attending a prayer meeting at the memorial of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi in Sriperumbudur. It was here that Rajiv Gandhi died in a terrorist attack three decades ago. Rahul will address a public meeting near the beach of Kanyakumari this evening, marking the formal start of the yatra.

During this, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel will also be present. Stalin will hand over a national flag to Rahul.

In a video message, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra told the people, wherever possible, join the Yatra. She said that this visit is necessary because negative politics is being done in the country and real issues related to the people are not being discussed. Vadra said that the purpose of the yatra is to focus on issues related to the people like inflation, unemployment.

Congress says that its visit is political, but its purpose is not to take political advantage, but to unite the country.

The 3,570-km long journey from Kanyakumari to Srinagar will formally begin at the rally, but in reality Gandhi and several other Congress leaders will begin the 'padayatra' on January 8 at 7 am. Before the start of the yatra, Rahul Gandhi will also visit Vivekananda Rock Memorial, Thiruvalluvar Statue and Kamaraj Memorial in Kanyakumari.
