BELAGAVI: Senior most politician of Belagavi district, seven-time MLA Umesh Vishwanath Katti (61) died by heart attack on Tuesday late night in Bengaluru. He suffered a heart attack at around 10pm when he was in his Dollars Colony resident in Bengaluru. Immediately he was shifted to MS Ramaiah Hospital, but he was announced dead after 2 hours.
Seven-time MLA from Hukkeri assembly constituency, would often in news for his separate North-Karnataka statehood stand. Becoming a chief minister was his dream which remained a dream. Being a follower of former CM BS Yediyurappa, Katti was handling two portfolios in the Basavaraj Bommai government- Forest and Food and Civil Supply.
Heart attack is an inheritor problem in the Katti family. His father Vishwanath had died while taking oath as MLA in a Banquet Hall of Vidhana Soúdha in 1985. This before, Umesh Katti also suffered heart attack for two times. Last time in 2008 he suffered the attack. The stunt had installed in his heart. Even his brother also has a heart problem and undergone bypass surgery.
Umesh Katti is survived by wife Sheela, son Nikhil, daughter Sneha, brother and a former MP Ramesh and four grandsons.
