Ludhiana: In a glimmer of hope for the shopkeepers of Furniture Market near Bharat Nagar Chowk, who are up in arms against the upcoming elevated road project near their shops, Ludhiana MP Ravneet Singh Bittu on Monday met Union minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari.
The shopkeepers have been demanding a change in the design of the project, as they are of the view that the project, in its present form, will impact their businesses. As per Bittu , the Union minister has assured to look into the demand of the traders and action is expected soon.
Giving more information about the meeting, MP Bittu said, “Yesterday I met Union minister Nitin Gadkari to raise the issue of changes in the elevated road near Bharat Nagar Chowk furniture market. The minister has assured me that the grievances of the Bharat Nagar traders association will be addressed at the earliest, besides this there were several other issues related to infrastructure projects in and around Ludhiana which were discussed with Gadkari. I took up the point of delay of entry exit work at Dhandari Kalan (NH 44), and also the issue of waterlogging at Sherpur Road. Another point which was discussed with the minister was the requirement of foot-over bridges on Chandigarh Road, where heavy and fast moving traffic leads to several accidents involving pedestrians” Bittu added, “Other projects including Ladhowal bypass, Ludhiana Ferozepur Road, Delhi Katra highway touching Ludhiana, Ludhiana- Roop Nagar, Ludhiana Bathinda road were also discussed in detail. I pressed upon to minister to introduce a policy for the requirement of soil for the construction of these projects and also urged him to ensure the fast completion of the repair of the stretches of road from Ludhiana to Moga, including the bridges.”
