THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Bharat Jodo Yatra by Rahul Gandhi will kick off from Kanyakumari on Wednesday. The yatra will cover 3,500km and will be completed in six months by interacting with people of different states, said AICC general secretary K C Venugopal on Tuesday.
Rahul, who will be reaching Rajiv Gandhi memorial at Sriperumbudur on Wednesday morning, will offer prayers. From there, he will be reaching Thiruvananthapuram on the way to Kanyakumari. The yatra will be launched at 5pm, he said.
At the inaugural function, all members of the Congress Working Committee, Congress chief ministers and national leaders of the party will be present. In the yatra, there will be 118 permanent volunteers who will be walking along with Rahul. Apart from this, volunteers and leaders from the respective states will also join the yatra, said Venugopal.
It will enter Alappuzha district the next day, and the yatra will continue to Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad and Malappuram districts before entering
Tamil Nadu.
AICC general secretary said the yatra will witness mass contact programmes in all the places where Rahul will be interacting with the cross sections of the people. "The attempt is to reconnect with the people and reach out to party workers," he said.
