The Central Bureau of Investigation raided West Bengal Law Minister and Trinamool Congress leader Moloy Ghatak's residence in Asansol. The sleuths have simultanously raided five other locations in Kolkatta.

The raids by CBI is in connection with the coal scam case. Ghatak was not present in any of his residences when the raids took place.

The agency, aided by a huge contingent of central paramilitary personnel, conducted searches in these properties in connection with the scam.

"As his name surfaced in the coal smuggling scam, we need to find out what was his role in it. We have evidence of Ghatak's involvement in the scam," the CBI officer told PTI.

The CBI sleuths took away mobile phones from the state law minister's family members and made them sit in one room in his Asansol houses, he said.

The entire areas around Ghatak's residences were surrounded by central forces when the raids took place.

The TMC leader was earlier summoned by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the case. Except once, he has skipped all the other summons issued to him.

Ghatak is third TMC leader who's residence has been raided in the past two months.

Two other leaders from the state Partha Chatterjee and Anubrata Mondal are currently in judicial custody for their involvement in school jobs and cattle smuggling cases.
