Hubballi: Dharwad deputy commissioner Gurudatt Hegde said on Tuesday that heavy rain on Monday in Dharwad, Navalgund and Annigeri taluks had disrupted normal life as water had entered farmland, houses and flooded roads.
The overflowing Tuppari Halla and Benni Halla have inundated Bhoganur, Nayaknur and Khannur in Navalgund taluk. Water also breached a bridge near Khannur village and a 25-year-old youth Channabasappa Devannavar was dragged away by the current and rescued by NDRF personnel.
Three persons stranded in their homes in Khannur were also rescued by the NDRF men.
Sugar and textile minister Shankar Patil Munenakoppa, who is the Navalgund MLA, visited the affected places and assessed the situation. He also reviewed relief operations.
The minister visited government schools in Hebasur and Kiresur where water has flooded classrooms.
DC Hegde said the district received seven per cent above normal rain in the first five days of September and the green and black gram crops have suffered maximum damage as 50,000 hectares are flooded.
