Supreme Court asks CMs of Punjab, Haryana to meet on SYL dispute

Supreme Court prodded the Punjab CM to attend a meeting with his Haryana counterpart for an amicable resolution of the row over construction of SYL canal
NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Tuesday prodded the Punjab CM to attend a meeting with his Haryana counterpart under the aegis of the Union Jal Shakti ministry to strive for an amicable resolution of the two-decade-old row over the construction of Sutlej Yamuna Link canal.
AG K K Venugopal said several Punjab CMs, including Bhagwant Mann, remained nonresponsive to invitations to talk to Haryana CMs over building the link canal to give Haryana its share of Ravi and Beas water. Precious natural resources have to be shared without taking a narrow approach of ‘my state, my city’, the SC said.
