Ludhiana: A few unidentified armed robbers tried to rob a grocery store owner in Haibowal’s Balloke road late on Monday late night but failed as the grocer fought back. The accused shot at him but he escaped unhurt. Police recovered two bullet shells and a bullet from the spot.
Pankaj Grover, 40, told the police that he was working in his shop on Monday night when two men posing as customers entered the shop while two others stood outside. He said that when the other customers left, one of the accused took out a gun and asked him to hand over the money. “However, I pushed him away and attacked the second accused with a tin box,” he said.
Grover added that the accused opened fire but missed. As he kept resisting, he said they fired again and this time, the bullet hit a tin box. By this time, he managed to raise an alarm and people started gathering. Thereafter, the accused escaped on their bikes and Grover called the police.
Sub-inspector Amritpal Sharma, SHO, Haibowal police station said that a case has been registered against the two unidentified accused under sections 307 (attempt to murder), 379-B (2) (snatching with hurt, wrongful restraint of fear of hurt), of the IPC and Arms Act against the unidentified accused. He added that it is yet to be verified whether the two men standing outside the shop were accomplices of the robbers or not. Footage of CCTV cameras installed in the area is being scanned.
