Ludhiana: The Division 8 police, on Sunday, booked an employee of a jeweller for stealing gold and diamond jewellery worth Rs 10 lakh. The jeweller said the accused concocted a theft story to deceive him.
The accused has been identified as Siddharth Agarwal of Bank Colony, Haibowal Kalan.
Jeweller Gurmesh Singh of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, Pakhowal Road, said, “I have a jewellery shop, Pacific Diamonds, near Fountain Chowk. I had hired Siddharth two months ago. On August 31, I handed over 108g gold and diamond jewellery worth Rs 10 lakh to him to deliver it in Adampur, Bhogpur and Jalandhar. Minutes after Sidhharth left the shop with the jewellery, he called up and said he had kept the jewellery in his shirt and when he was travelling in a public transport, someone tore his shirt and stole it.”
Gurmesh said Sidhharth was changing his statement frequently. “I suspect he concocted the story to steal the jewellery,” he added.
Division 8 ASI Gurdev Singh said an FIR has been lodged under Section 408 (criminal breach of trust by clerk or servant) of the IPC. The accused has not yet been arrested.
