The Ministry of Railways announced on Tuesday that it has no plans to solicit bids for the operation of passenger trains under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) model.
According to a news item written in a notable daily and digital edition, Indian Railways has for the first time encouraged bidders from private entities to operate 150 pairs of passenger trains under the PPP model. It also stated that private entities would be free to set traveller fares on these trains.
In response to these misleading media reports, the Ministry of Railways helps clarify that no such initiative is under evaluation, and no bids have been solicited recently, according to an official response released by the Ministry of Railways.
"Therefore, such reports are factually incorrect and stakeholders should not take cognizance of it," it said.
