Gurgaon: A Sudanese national was cheated of Rs 20,000 in Indian currency and US $300 by men posing as cops near Medanta hospital on Saturday, police said. The Sudanese national identified as Mohammad Mustaf, who had come to Gurgaon for his medical treatment, told the cops that on Saturday night, a few men wearing police uniforms stopped him. The men introduced themselves as police personnel and asked for his passport and visa. While checking the passport, one of the accused checked his bag, discreetly took out the money and returned the bag.
An hour later when Mustaf checked his bag, he realised that his money was stolen. He then filed a complaint regarding the matter at Sadar police station.
Based on the complaint, the unidentified persons have been booked under IPC sections 205 (impersonation), 34 (common intention) and 378 (theft).
Police said a gang has been targetting foreign nationals in the area.
“It’s hard to deceive a local who is aware of the administration, police and crimes happening in a city. Foreign nationals are an easy target. We have received a few other complaints this month where victims were duped in a similar manner. We are launching raids to nab the accused,” said a police officer from Sadar.
