GUWAHATI: The Gauhati high court on Monday issued a notice to the
Assam government seeking its reply to a writ petition questioning why the report of the inquiry commission on anomalies in the 2013 combined competitive exam (CCE) has not been implemented to date, within four weeks. The exam was conducted by the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC).
The petitioners, candidates of the APSC CCE-2013, have also sought to know why the report has not been made public even after the submission of the same to the government about five months ago.
The petition was filed by Manash Pratim Baruah and others in 2014. It was heard by a bench of Justice Michael Zothankhuma.
Petitioners’ lawyer Rinku Hazarika said, “Following a case alleging anomalies in conducting CCE-2013, the additional chief secretary of the home and political department of Assam in 2019 constituted a one-man inquiry commission headed by Justice (retired) BK Sharma to probe the allegations. The commission prepared a report earlier this year, which was collected by the principal secretary of the home and political department of Assam on April 2. Neither has the report been made public, nor its recommendations been implemented yet.”
The petitioners have also questioned the validity of the committee headed by the chief secretary of the state, which was formed by the cabinet in April to examine the report of the Sharma commission.
The commission has tried 34 ACS/APS officers during the investigation into the anomalies.
