Thiruvananthapuram:
BJP on Monday demanded the state government to examine the efficacy of rabies vaccine used in the state and asked chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan to oust health minister Veena George for her inefficiency in ensuring the effectiveness of the anti-rabies vaccine used in the state.
“It’s a very serious matter that people die even after taking anti-rabies vaccine. The CM should not just speak in the assembly on the need to ensure the effectiveness of the vaccine. Urgent steps are needed to save people from this predicament. Eight lives were lost in dog bites in the last month alone. Public health service in the state has come to shambles,” said BJP state president K Surendran.
“Parents of Abhirami, who died on Monday after the attack by a rabid dog, said that the child was not given proper treatment in the government hospitals,” he said.
Meanwhile, Union minister V Muraleedharan asked the state government to order an inquiry into the reasons that led to Abhirami’s death. “It’s a serious revelation that the vaccines administered to people were of substandard quality,” he said. tnn
