JAIPUR: A 48-year-old history-sheeter was shot dead by at least 12 armed assailants who had opened fire at his car when he was returning from the circuit house of Bharatpur on late Sunday evening. He sustained seven bullet injuries while his vehicle had 10 gunshot marks.
Police said that the primary investigation suggested that a dispute over illegal encroachments on lands between two groups is the reason behind the murder.
On Monday morning the brother of the deceased, Satveer Singh, attempted to commit suicide by splashing inflammable product on his body, demanding arrests in the case.
According to police, the deceased Kripal Singh, who was also the member of Divisional Railway Users Consultative Committees (DRUCC) was returning from the circuit house in his car when his vehicle was intercepted by at least 12 persons on two bikes and two other vehicles.
"Before he could understand anything, the assailants started firing. In the attack, Singh was seriously injured and was taken to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to the injuries. So far it is found that the deceased had at least five injury marks and his vehicle had 10 gunshot marks," said a senior police officer in Bharatpur.
Police stated that it has been found in the investigation so far that Kripal Singh had a prolonged dispute with one Kuldeep Jat over grabbing a government land at Jagheena area.
"It was found that Kuldeep Jat had illegally acquired a government land in which the deceased Kripal managed to get a stay order by the court. Also, it has been found that at least 11 cases were registered against Kripal with various police stations in Bharatpur," said a senior officer.
Satveer Singh has lodged an FIR against 10 persons identified as Kuldeep Singh, Kunwarjeet Singh, Vijay Pal, Harpal, Veeru, Prabhav, Sher Singh, Sudhanshu and one Yograj.
"We came to know that firing has taken place at Jagheena gate area in Bharatpur in which one Kripal Singh died. We have lodged an FIR and are raiding places to nab the assailants," said Shyam Singh, Superintendent of police, Bharatpur.
It was also found that the deceased was close to the local BJP MP Ranjeeta Koli and was seen with other leaders including tourism minister
Vishvendra Singh and Nadbai MLA Joginder Awana.
"It is a heinous act and I am quite disturbed. All I can say is that he was like a brother," said BJP MP Ranjeeta Koli.
