BALLARI: Villagers and his family members, kept a boy’s body covered in salt, as they believed that he would be resurrected, after coming across a message that was spread on social media.
This incident occurred in Siravar village in Ballari taluk recently, but it came to light on Monday. A 10-year-old boy, Suresh Siravar, died after drowning in a pond recently. His father Shekhar and mother Gangamma, and villagers believed messages on social media, that stated that a dead person could be revived by being placed in a pile of salt, after which they decided to keep his body under salt for two hours, but even after the body was kept under the salt of four hours, nothing happened, after which they cremated it.
After this incident, photos of the body kept in salt have gone viral on social media, and many villagers have been discussing the issue. “We have seen a post on social media, that stated that we can bring a person back to life, if their body is placed under salt within two hours of death. Following this, we placed more than 100kg of salt on Suresh’s body, which we kept in this manner for more than four hours. Only his face was left uncovered. We couldn’t bring him back to life again, so we cremated his body after that,” said Tippeswamy and Ganesh, who stay in Siravar village.
Virupaksh, a close relative of the deceased, said that they had lost Suresh, but felt that there was nothing to lose if they tried to revive him, as the post that went viral on social media stated, as 100kg of salt costs a petty amount, if one can be brought back to life.
