The Mercedes SUV that crashed in Palghar on Sunday, killing the Tata Sons ex-chairman Cyrus Mistry is now known to have at least seven traffic violation cases of speeding and jumping signals from 2020 till now.
According to Palghar Superintendent of Police Balasaheb Patil, during the course of the investigation, they found seven traffic violation cases of speeding and jumping signals – which are registered under the same number plate of the vehicle in which Mistry was travelling during the incident.
“We are looking at all angles at the point. From traffic to Regional Transport Office (RTO) to the authorities of Mercedes, who are constantly working. We also have the spot inspection going on by our officers, who will be submitting the analysis report soon. The remaining developments will take a route after the reports come in,” Patil said to this newspaper on Tuesday.
The police are currently also trying to find out who was behind the wheel during the past seven cases of speeding and jumping signals. According to CarInfo, an RTO vehicle information mobile application, the vehicle has been registered under J M Financial LTD since May 2018, as the second owner.
On the day of the incident, Mistry along with three others was travelling to Mumbai from Gujarat. The ones who were travelling along are Dr Anahita Pandole, Darius Pandole, and Jahangir Pandole who was sitting along with Mistry at the rear (back seats). As per post-mortem reports, the cause of death of Mistry and Jahangir is multiple injuries, veins rupturing that caused internal bleeding, and blunt thorax trauma.
The police on the other end, as per their preliminary probe, said that over-speeding and an error of judgment by the driver caused the accident.
