CHITRADURGA: Eager to ensure that all services offered to the public at the Murugha Mutt are not affected owing to recent incidents, the in-charge pontiff, Sri Mahanta Rudreshwara Swami of Hebbalu Virakta Mutt, has been overseeing the operations, and attending to everyday affairs.
On Monday, the seer presided over the mass wedding ceremony of couples at the mutt. Rudreshwara Swami said that, in the past 32 years, 17,000 couples had tied the knot at Murugha Mutt. "The mutt started organising mass wedding ceremonies to help ease the financial burden on families. The mutt provides the taali and attire for the bride and groom, free of cost for the event," he said.
Rudreshwara Swami said that, although eight couples had registered for the mass wedding event scheduled on Monday, two of them withdrew owing to personal reasons. The ceremony was organised by the mutt, in association with the SJM Vidyapeetha, the Basava Kendra, SJM Shanthi, and Pragathi Foundation.
Sri Shanthaveera Guru Murugharajendra Swami lauded the event held at Murugha Mutt, which he said was a template more people must emulate. "Nearly all couples who entered into matrimony at Murugha Mutt remain happily married," he said.
Given that the event coincided with Teacher's Day, the dignitaries in attendance garlanded the portrait of India's second President and pre-eminent philosopher, S Radhakrishnan. The values that Radhakrishnan enshrined in the education system were discussed, and his contribution to enriching the domain remembered.
