Prayagraj: The showroom of a renowned retail chain of the country had to face the brunt of the devotees here at Sangam city on Monday when their concept of showing Lord Ganesha came in the notice of locals who objected their ‘unique concept’.
On the second floor of this retail chain, located at Civil Lines, the deity was made by vacuum cleaner and other electronic gadgets. The pipe of the vacuum cleaner was used to give the shape of Ganesha’s long trunk.
Likewise, the hands and feet were shown by using a mixer and cloth iron. The ride of Ganesha, the mouse, was represented by the mouse used in computers.
The ‘art work’ was spotted by TOI at the centre of the showroom of the electronic section. When TOI inquired about the same, the manager of the electronic section, Akhilesh Singh said, “This has been done by the instructions of our head office and in fact we have been asked to execute the concept, take a picture and send the same to our seniors”. Later, on receiving the information, BJP corporator Pawan Srivastava reached the showroom along with the party workers and objected to the ‘art work’. On his intervention, it was removed.
Srivastava said that seeing this artwork, Hindu sentiments have been hurt. “This virus, of insulting Hindu deities, has come from Bollywood and is now starting to spread in big malls which is not fair. This will not be tolerated”, said the corporator.
