HYDERABAD/WARANGAL: National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday raided the Hyderabad and Warangal residences of two key members of the outlawed CPI-Maoist's frontal outfit - Chaitanya Mahila Sangham (CMS) - as part of a probe into the alleged abduction of a nursing student, Pallepati Radha, by the guerrillas in 2017.
NIA personnel launched simultaneous raids at Hanamkonda home of former CMS president S Anitha and at Hyderabad's Bagh Amberpet residence of the outfit's convener Jyothi. Several books and literature on overground activities of Maoists were seized,
Before NIA’s Hyderabad unit lodged an abduction case in June on a complaint by Radha’s family, a missing FIR had been lodged last year at Munchingputtu police station in Andhra Pradesh.
The investigating agency had charged the Maoist front, CMS, of engineering the kidnapping of the paramedic student, who was a resident of Kapra in Medchal district. Sources said, Pallepati Radha was forced to take over responsibility of medical care of Maoists in the Andhra-Odisha Border Zonal Committee.
In August, former CMS president Anitha, who teaches at a government school in Warangal, received a NIA notice seeking details on the Maoist frontal organisation. The investigating agency sought data on the outfit’s genesis, founding members, addresses of office-bearers, revenue source, activities over five years and whether it was a registered organisation. “Six months ago, I shared all the details with the NIA when I was summoned to their office.
I also clarified that I was no longer an active member. NIA served another notice on me some days ago, but because of a delay in furnishing a written reply, they raided my home. Today morning, NIA officials barged into my house and seized the CMS manifesto, minutes of our meetings and a book of our songs,” said Anitha.
Also, books and literature on CMS’ overground activities were seized in the parallel raid at the Hyderabad house of the CMS convener Jyothi. She categorically told NIA personnel that she had nothing to do with Radha’s disappearance
