JAIPUR: A 37-year-old traffic police constable on duty to intercept speeding vehicles was killed after being run over by a rashly driven truck near Daulatpura toll plaza on Jaipur-Delhi highway on Monday evening.
The constable, Dharmendra, a resident of Deeg in Bharatpur district, was standing along with the police interceptor when the incident took place, at about 1:30pm. "A rashly driven truck ran over Dharmendra. His fellow policeman ran behind the truck and, with the help of a few locals, managed to nab its driver. Dharmendra was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to the injuries," said a police official of Daulatpura.
"It was found through the camera that the truck was over-speeding. The constable signalled to the truck driver to stop, but the latter, in a bid to escape the situation, hit the constable on duty," added the official.
A case of causing death due to negligence was registered against the arrested truck driver under appropriate sections of IPC. Dharmendra's body was handed over to his family in the evening, said police.
