Kanpur: A 35-year-old woman, after poisoning her two kids, also consumed poison at her house in Makanpur town under Bilhaur police station area of the district on Sunday night.
According to police, the incident occurred when all family members had gone to take part in Ganesh Puja at a nearby Kherapati temple.
Ragini Gupta, the 35-year-old wife of sweet shopkeeper Manoj Gupta, native of Ilyaspur village in Makanpur, Bilhaur, allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison after feeding her three-year-old daughter Anshi and five-month-old daughter Priyanshi poisonous milk. The exact reason behind the incident is not yet clear. According to police, Ragini had married
Manoj four years ago and were blessed with two daughters.
Police suspect that the incident had apparently happened after 10 pm on Sunday, when Ragini, after poisoning her children, consumed the poison. Police did not find any death note.
Manoj had gone to witness Ganesh Puja at the nearby Kherapati temple and the incident came to light when he returned home.
He saw Ragini and their two daughters Anshi (5) and two-and-a-half-month-old Pranshi lying motionless.
He alerted the neighbours, who helped him rush the three to a hospital. All of the three were declared dead. Preliminary inquiries revealed they were a happy couple. Neither the husband nor Ragini’s parents have come up with an allegation over the deaths.
The Bilhaur police have taken up a case and are investigating it further. “Ragini had married Manoj Gupta about six years ago. The exact cause of the death will be clear only after the post-mortem report comes,” said Circle Officer Bilhaur Rajesh Kumar.
