Venice takes steps to lessen pollution

Venice, one of the most stunning Italian holiday destinations in the world, is keeping no stone unturned to lessen the pollution level in the city. The Italian government is urging tourists to maintain Venice canals, streets and squares and keep them clean and pollution free. The Italian government has requested tourists to drink water from the public fountains rather than making use of plastic water bottles.

To instruct tourists and making them aware, tourism officials have started a marketing campaign. Every year, innumerable tourists visit Italy. Now that Italy has dismissed most of its COVID-19 travel restraints, tourism is almost back to the earlier days.

To make things relaxed for tourists, tourism officials have started delivering maps of public drinking fountains in the St. Mark’s Square, which is a significant tourist attraction in Venice. There are around 126 public drinking fountains which are safe for drinking water. Tourism is accountable for almost 40 percent of waste production in Venice. Since the tourism industry is now recuperating from the pandemic, the city officials are considering measures for maintaining the local environment and keep it clean.

For long, Venice has been suffering from over tourism and has been trying hard for limiting the number of tourists. To keep a check on numbers, Italy has declared plans to charge an entry fee for day-visitors, which might be implemented from next year.
