Man gets 10 years imprisonment for attempting to rape woman in Coimbatore

COIMBATORE: The district mahila court in Coimbatore on Tuesday awarded ten years’ rigorous imprisonments (RI) to a 34-year-old man for attempting to rape a woman in a commercial complex at Singanallur on October 2, 2021.
P Anbuvel, 34, of Tuticorin district, was working as a salesman at a textile shop located at Singanallur.
A 24-year-woman was working as a cashier in the shop. Her father used to drop her and pick her up every day.
On October 2, 2021, she completed the accounts around 10.30pm and closed the shop. She handed over the key to the private security guard of the commercial complex and was waiting at in front of the building. Due to heavy rain, her father was not able to reach the shop in time. Anbuvel was also waiting in front of the complex.
The private security guard went for a round on the commercial complex premises. Meanwhile Anbuvel forcibly took the woman to a secluded place where he gagged her using his hands and attempted to rape her. Meanwhile, the security guard returned to the front of the commercial complex and her father also arrived. They started to search for the woman. They rescued her while Anbuvel managed to escape from the place.
The woman suffered minor injuries and she was admitted to a private hospital. Based on her complaint, the East all women police in Coimbatore city registered a case against Anbuvel under sections 376 (i) read with 511, 324 and 506 (ii) of the Indian Penal Code. The police arrested Anbuvel.
The trial was held before the district mahila court, and special public prosecutor B Jisha appeared for the victim woman. Judge R Nandhinidevi sentenced Anbuvel to ten years’ rigorous imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 1,000 on him.
