Ranchi: A seven-member special investigation team (SIT) will look into the murder of the three women at Ranadih village under Sonahatu police station area. The trio were killed last week on suspicion of practising witchcraft.
The SIT will be headed by Bundu sub-divisional police officer
Ajay Kumar, rural SP Naushad Alam said on Monday. “Five villagers have been detained,” the SP added.
On Monday, the body of the third victim, Alumani Devi, was found after a search operation. The other two bodies were recovered on Sunday. All three were in their 50s.
Police said a boy had died from snake bite in the village around 10 days ago. A few days later, another villager fell sick, following which the locals contacted the village sorcerer, who accused the three women of practising witchcraft and causing harm to the villagers.
The three women were beaten to death by the villagers on September 1 and police came to know of the incident on Sunday.
