HYDERABAD: A woman was stabbed to death by her husband at her parents' house in Chandrayangutta on Monday. The accused was caught by locals and handed over to police.
The woman, Mehrunnisa Begum (36), and accused Md Abrar Ahmed, a lorry driver from Kohir mandal in Sangareddy district, had been married for 18 years. Cops said there were frequent quarrels between the couple due to Abrar's addiction to liquor.
Four years ago, the couple had moved with their four children to a rented accommodation near Mehrunnisa's parents' house in Chandrayangutta. On Sunday night, after a quarrel Mehrunnisa went to her parents' home.
On Monday afternoon, a drunk Abrar went to his in-law's house and during a quarrel stabbed his wife in the stomach multiple times, killing her on the spot, Chandrayangutta inspector KN Prasad Varma said.
Mehrunnisa's mother and daughter, who tried to intervene, also suffered minor injuries.
After the attack, Abrar tried to escape but locals managed to pin him down despite his attempts to attack them. The accused also suffered some injuries. A murder case was registered against him under IPC section 302.
