Maha’s Rahul beats Suraj to bag squash title

Jaipur: Second seed Maharashtra’s Rahul Baitha claimed the Rajasthan Classic Squash title in the senior men's section after upsetting top seed Suraj Chand in the final at the Rajasthan Squash Academy, SMS Stadium, on Monday.
Suraj started well by winning the first game at 11-6 but Rahul staged a great fight back to win the next two games at 12-10, 11-7. The fourth game went to Suraj at 11-6 but in the decider Rahul showed better control to win the game at 11-8 and the title.
The tournament proved to be a good outing for Rajasthan players as they won five out of seven titles at stake.
In the Under-11 boys, Fareed Andrabi, living up to his top billing, grabbed the title by overpowering Aryaan Prabhu 9-11,11-7,12-10, 11-3. This is the fourth title Fareed has won in various tournaments. The girls’ title in the same category went to Chhavi Panchal, who beat Divyanshi Jain 11-6, 11-2,9-11, 11-5.
Saharsh Shahra emerged the winner in the boys Under-13 defeating Shresht Iyer 11-3, 7-11, 11-3, 11-8. Aroma beat Aahana Singh 11-6, 14-12, 13-11 to win the girls’ final.
In the boys Under-15 final, Subash Choudhary was given a tough fight by Savir Sood, losing in a five-setter 12-10, 9-11,7-11,11-8,12-10. Ritwika Singh Bundela claimed the girls’ title sailing past Aradhya Powar 11-7,11-5,11-8.
Second seed Yuvraj Wadhwani upset top seed Avalokit Singh to win the boys Under-17 crown. Yuvraj won 14-12,11-5,5-11, 11-8. While in the girls’ section the top seed Yashi Jain kept her top billing intact by defeating Khushboo 11-9, 11-9, 11-9. Lakshya Gwala beat Ekam Singh 11-8, 9-11, 11-7, 11-6 to win the boys’ Under-19 title while Kaavya Bansal took the girls’ crown outplaying Khushi Jaspal 11-3,11-5,11-4.
State sports minister Ashok Chandna gave away the prizes.
