Kanpur: Police claim to solve murder of 68-year-old woman, 3 arrested

KANPUR: Police on Monday stated to have solved the murder of the 68-year-old Madhu Kapoor, claiming that Vipin, a driver of her friend, had plotted her murder and the robbery. The police have uncovered the incident with the help of CCTV footage and surveillance.
Madhu Kapoor, was found murdered in her posh apartment in Swaroop Nagar area on February 14.
The police arrested three persons--Vipin Kumar, the mastermind, and his two aides--Gautam Kumar and Sandeep Kashyap from separate parts of the city on Monday in connection with the case.
Vipin and Gautam reside in Takia Park locality in Sisamau, while Sandeep is a resident of Kanshiram Colony Sanigawan Chakeri.
According to police, Gautam Kumar and Sandeep Kashyap, the aides of the driver Vipin Kumar, reached the Concord Apartment in Swaroop Nagar on February 14 around 7.30 pm and murdered Madhu by smothering her mouth and decamped with gold and diamond ornaments, cash and other valuables.
Vipin, who used to drive the four-wheeler of Madhu Gupta's friend Roli Mehrotra had planned her murder, the police said.
“He provided a tip to his two aides-- Gautam and Sandeep--and in the process conducted a recce, prior to the murder” said an investigator. Vipin confessed to his crime and admitted before the investigators that greed prompted him to conspire the murder, said commissioner of police BP Jogdand. “For this, he roped in his two friends Gautam and Sandeep with criminal background to commit the crime,”, he added.
To recall, panic prevailed after Madhu Kapoor was smothered to death by some unidentified miscreants in a flat in Concord Apartment in the posh Swaroop Nagar police station area of the City. The murder, which had taken place on February 14, came to light after the woman's daughter in order in order to inquire about her well-being, visited her on February 15 morning.
The miscreants, after taking the old lady and the maid present at the house hostage, carried out the incident.
Police said that Madhu, used to live in the flat no. 307 of the third floor of Concord Apartments in the Swaroop Nagar area.
Police further said that Madhu Kapoor was looked after by a maid Savitri. She said that the miscreants had barged into the flat in the night and after taking her hostage at knife point, killed her employer. Maid Savitri was with the elderly woman till 10 in the night, the police said.
Due to a problem in the eyes, the victim had to be taken to the doctor on February 14. When the woman's daughter Neeru Tandon went to the flat at 8 am on February 15, the door was found to be locked from outside. On opening the latch, she went inside and called her mother but there was no answer.Meanwhile, the maid voice came from the bathroom and when she opened the door, she was found hostage. When she reached the room, she was shocked to see the blood-stained body of her mother.
