Assam: BSF jawan on leave drowns in Hailakandi waterbody

SILCHAR: A BSF jawan died after getting drowned in a waterbody at Aranyapur, a tourist spot in Katlicherra locality of Hailakandi district.
The deceased identified as Saurav Sinha (23) was a resident of East Chamtilla in Ratabari in Karimganj district. He was posted in Jammu and came home few days ago on leave.
According to a senior police officer in Hailakandi said, Saurav had come to Aranyapur on Sunday with his three friends Ranju Prajapati, Tinku Koiri and Suraj Pashi. After bathing for some time, in the waterbody, Saurav told his friends that he was going to urinate at a nearby place, but he did not return. His body was later fished out from a waterbody by police around 9 pm on Sunday. The body was sent to Hailakandi SK Roy civil hospital on Monday for autopsy.
Saurav's three friends were detained for questioning, the police offcial said.
Saurav's family members and a few relatives, who reached the spot after getting the news of the demise, claimed Ranju, Tinku and Suraj were lying and suspected foul play" in the tragedy. They demanded that the matter be investigated properly.
Local residents said a huge number of tourists visit the picturesque spot on holidays in particular. The area has a waterfall, hill and a waterbody.
