Kashmir’s Wular Lake is one of largest freshwater lakes in South Asia. It will soon get to witness a non-motorable walkway. Wular Lake is located near Bandipora town in North Kashmir, and is a popular tourist attraction.
Lately, in the course of the Wular Festival, the Division Commissioner said that a non-motorable path will be created around the lake to attract more tourists. The DC’s words are a sigh of relief for the people of the region. The local residents said that the governments are not giving sufficient consideration to this lake, and thus, it is on the edge of destruction.
The Wular Lake is rich in terms of natural resources and biodiversity. The Divisional Commissioner further stated that the lake has a great prospective to change the socio-economic position of residents of the region.
This year, the Valley is seeing a record tourist footfall, and this new walkway is expected to boost tourist footfall in the region.
The locals opined that the governments are not giving due attention regarding conserving the Wular Lake, in spite of it being one of the largest lakes in Asia. It has remained ignored for years by various governments. The locals are hopeful that the new progresses will not only create employment openings for the locals, but will also help in improving tourism in the region.
