Gurgaon: Alleging that their salaries have not been hiked in the past five years, employees of Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) and Faridabad Metropolitan Development Authority (FMDA) have decided to go on an indefinite strike.
Workers on Monday held a symbolic demonstration at the GMDA office and alleged that the metropolitan authority has failed to honour their repeated request of granting an increment for the past five years.
A junior engineer (JE) of GMDA said, “Workers at GMDA and FMDA have been overworked and underpaid for years now. Initially, we let it go as we all were new. Then Covid came and we understood that the department doesn’t have the bandwidth to deal with our requests. But now, our patience has run out and we have been forced to go on an indefinite strike. Right now we are not taking help from any union.”
GMDA’s CEO Sudhir Rajpal, however, maintained that their request is under consideration at CM’s office and action on that may be taken in due course of time. “Since the overall budget of GMDA is less than that of other civic bodies, it is unfair on part of a section of workers to rue about the pay difference. Anyway, we are looking into the matter. Their request has been forwarded to the chief minister’s office.”
