By: Abhilasha SinghYes, design is subjective but every now and then, there can be one that's collectively despised. For example, there's no way anyone finds the Maruti Zen Classic a good-looker. Frankly, it looked like a botched plastic surgery on the poor Zen.

The Estillo was the successor to the successful Zen but barely held a candle to it. It was pretty much a WagonR with curves and so it lost everything the old Zen stood for, plus it came in ghastly colours, like the one pictured here.

The Tekker was based on the Ambassador but designed as a people carrier, however, Hindustan Motors put function way too over form. The straight lines and too boxy a design, in fact, looked like there was absolutely no consideration to its visual appeal.

Hindustan Motors tried a lot of iterations with the Ambassador, one of which was a pick-up truck. The Veer wasn't anything short of a poor Ambassador cut in half and then bolted with a pick-up truck style set up at the rear.

Mahindra now has great compact SUVs in its lineup, but back when the body style was just catching on, they didn't as much have a hold on the concept. The Quanto was a Xylo downsized to fit sub-4 metres and sadly looked like it really was chopped from the rear.

The Verna is one of the nice-looking sedans in India today, however, it too went through a phase in its life when it wasn't so. The Verna Transform with its annoying front grille couldn't cut the mustard with even those uninterested in cars.
