Bokaro: Acting on a tip-off given by the Kolkata CBI, the Bokaro police on Saturday nabbed the prime accused in the murder of a Bengal-based Congress councillor in March.
The accused, identified as Jabir Ansari, was caught from Kachho under Pek-Narayanpur police station limits. “A bike which was used in the murder was recovered at a local market here,” Bokaro Thermal police station’s inspector, Shailesh Kumar Chauhan, who headed the team that made the arrest, said.
Tapan Kundu, who was elected as a councillor on March 2, was murdered on March 11 at Jhalda in West Bengal’s Purulia district. Ansari fired at him when he was returning home after his morning walk.
Sources said Tapan’s cousin, Deepak Kundu, has already been arrested in connection with the crime.
The CBI team had been camping in Bokaro for the last four days to nab Ansari, who is a resident of Kachho.
