Ludhiana: The Punjab school education department has selected three teachers from Ludhiana district for state award-2022. They will be felicitated at a state-level function to be held at Anandapur Sahib.
As per the list, the teachers selected for state award include Rumani Ahuja from Government Senior Secondary School, Punjab Agricultural University; Vinod Kumar of Government Senior Secondary School. Sherpur Kalan; and Vikas Kapila from Government Primary School, Ghungrali Rajputana.
However, no teacher from the district would be given the Young Teacher Award, and also none for the administrative award that is generally to be given to district education officers or deputy district education officers.
Talking to TOI, one of the recipients, Vikas Kapila (43), who is serving as an elementary teacher trainer at primary school in Ghungrali Rajputana, said, " I am serving government schools for the last 16 years, since 2006. My parents
Sita Devi and Ram Gopal Kapila were also teachers and are my biggest inspiration and they have been guiding me.”
Ever since Vikas joined the school, he said, " There has been a 19% increase in enrolment of students. I have also initiated a free auto service to pick and drop students off and celebrate the birthdays of every student at the end of every month. More so, I have introduced computer-based and activity-based teaching and learning and installed projectors, LEDs, and computers.”
He has served 14 years at GPS Majri and one and half years at Ghungrali Rajputana. He said, “It was good to use lockdown period, and I have spent day and night to convert the school into a smart school. This award will work as a booster to work hard for the betterment of the students.”
His wife Galaxy Sofat is also a cluster head teacher in the same school.
Another award recipient is Rumani Ahuja, who is working as a mathemetics mistress at GSSS PAU. She said, “My dream has come true and I owe my award to the Almighty and family.”
She credits awards to students as well and said, “Students are generally afraid of maths subject, but I made sure that I create interest among students and have to make them fall in love with it. I have made a maths park, and maths lab and make students visit it regularly. I have made maths activities with low-cost material.”
Vinod Kumar, serving as principal at GSSS Sherpur Kalan, said, “I have been working since 1985 and have been principal for the last 13 years.
“Every teacher has to work for the overall development of students and schools, providing opportunities for learning and basic infrastructure. As principal, I have to motivate teachers and students for their betterment. So, I dedicate this award to my school staff, colleagues, and everyone with whom I have worked. I believe that we have to become an idol for students as they follow our footprints and we have to become the source of inspiration for them.”
