She was Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs.
Truss won this election of Conservative Party members after weeks of a heated and sometimes violent leadership battle that pitted the foreign minister against former finance minister Rishi Sunak.
Boris Johnson was Forced to Resign in July this year.
Truss taking over will begin a changeover from Boris Johnson, who was compelled to make a statement of his resignation in July after months of controversy caused support for his government to decline.
Boris Johnson will travel to Scotland on Tuesday to deliver Queen Elizabeth his letter of resignation. Truss will also be there to establish a new government.
Truss had committed to taking quick and decisive action to address Britain's crisis of rising living costs. She planned to develop a strategy to address rising energy costs and ensure consistent fuel supplies within a week.
The UK is Going Through Long Recession
Truss, who has consistently been the front-runner in the battle to succeed Johnson, will become the fourth prime minister for the Conservatives since the 2015 election.
Over that time, the country has seen a series of crises, and it is currently experiencing what is predicted to be a long recession brought on by rising inflation, which reached 10.1% in July.
Truss will have to work hard to win over some of her party's legislators who voted for Sunak in the election. Truss has promised to choose a capable cabinet and abandon what a source close to her called a "presidential-style" of rule.
