Hindu Munnani functionary arrested in Coimbatore

COIMBATORE: The Bazaar police in Coimbatore city arrested a Hindu Munnani functionary on Monday for raising slogans against a particular community.
The arrested man has been identified as M Santhosh, 24, of Ramamurthy Pathai at Selvapuram. Santhosh, an autorickshaw driver, is the urban secretary of the Hindu Munnani in Selvapuram area.
On Sunday evening, Hindu Munnani took out a procession from Theppakulam maidan to immerse more than 120 Ganesh idols in the Muthannankulam.
When the rally reached the Vysial Street -Sullivan Street junction, Santhosh raised slogans against a particular community.
The city police recorded the incident and registered a case against Santhosh under sections 296 (disturbing religious assembly), 298 (uttering, words etc with deliberate intent to wound the religious feelings of any person), 153 (A) (1) (b) (promoting enmity between different groups on ground of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language etc, and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony) and 505 (3) (statements conducing to public mischief) of the Indian Penal Code.
He was remanded in judicial custody.
