Coimbatore: It is not feasible to extend the Tiruchendur-Palakkad unreserved express train service to Mettupalayam, Southern Railway general manager B G Mallya said.
Replying to a question from Kinathukadavu MLA S Damodharan, Mallya on August 26 said that changing the destination of Tiruchendur-Palakkad-Tiruchendur express to Mettupalayam and rerouting it via Kinathukadavu and Podanur will deprive the present users in Pollachi and Palakkad sections of direct service to Tiruchendur.
Reacting to a question on restoration of service from Rameswaram to Coimbatore via Madurai as an overnight train, the official said the proposal is not feasible due to lack of terminal constraints at Coimbatore. Passengers are also demanding a stoppage of Tirunelveli-Mettupalayam special train at Kinathukadavu. However, the railway stated that providing another stoppage between Podanur and Pollachi will slow down the service. TNN
