MEERUT: A couple in Meerut allegedly killed their 11-year-old daughter, a Class IV student, by throwing her into a canal as she used to talk to a 12-year-old boy from the neighbourhood, police said on Sunday. The incident took place on September 1, but police are yet to find the body. The parents were arrested on Saturday.
The parents had earlier lodged a police complaint, claiming that their daughter, Chanchal, had gone "missing". When police spoke to her six-year-old brother, he said his parents had taken Chanchal to a nearby market but "when they returned, she was not with them".
The couple, Babloo Kashyap, 40, and Ruby Kashyap, 38, confessed to the crime, saying that they drowned their child in a canal. SP (rural) Keshav Kumar said, "Two police teams have been deployed near the canal. The body of the girl is yet to be recovered".
