PANAJI: A street dog who was severely burnt after coming in contact with firecrackers was rescued near Comba railway gate in Margao on Sunday. The rescuers took the injured animal to a local clinic where it was administered a painkiller and antibiotics before admitting it into an animal rescue centre in Canacona.
“Such incidents happen every year and no one seems to pay any attention to the fact that loud blasts and
crackers are detrimental to the health of stray animals. This is the time of the year where animals go helter-skelter and often go missing as they seek protection from the noise,” said Virginia Simoes, who along with a team of volunteers, rescues street animals in south Goa.
