Last year a fan at the US Open had gone viral after she held a glass of beer and chugged it down to an Arthur Ashe crowd wildly cheering her on. A year later, Megan Lucky, the American woman who became viral on social media, returned again. She came with another glass of beer which she gulped down, much to the delight of the crowd around her who ended up giving her a standing ovation on Friday night.
The live TV cameras zoomed in on her and the US Open fan took no time seizing the moment. She quickly took her partner’s beer and drank it away. The act was live on the big screens at the Court. Taking note of the incident, the US Open official Twitter handle shared the video on Sunday, “It seems this is becoming tradition at this point.”

Sports in the USA tend to interact with fans, especially during breaks in play. In the NBA, for example, one can regularly see mascots inviting children and adults for competitions during half-time, as well as distributing t-shirts or zooming in on spectators while they dance. Audience interaction is key and the sporting event is just one part of the overall experience of the fan.
Lucky first became a social media sensation at the 2021 US Open for drinking a beer in one go, unprompted, when the TV cameras found her watching tennis last year. She has also turned her US Open fame into a pretty large social media following. She posted some photos from the US Open on her Instagram as well.
