At that time, the central government had announced of reducing the excise duty on the price of oil.
In Meghalaya, the price of petrol and diesel had increased by Rs 1.5 per liter in the last day. VAT on oil was reduced after the formation of Shinde government in Maharashtra. At that time, petrol became cheaper by Rs 5 and diesel by Rs 3 in Maharashtra. Crude oil is falling and trading below USD 90 per barrel. On Monday morning, the price of WTI crude reached USD 88.29 per barrel. On the other hand, Brent crude was seen falling at USD 94.60 per barrel.
Earlier on May 22, the Modi government had cut excise duty. After this move of the government, petrol became cheaper by Rs 8 and diesel by Rs 6. Soon after this, some state governments also reduced VAT.
