KANPUR:A 51-year-old murder accused, who was out on bail, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at his residence in Hanumant Vihar Yogendra Vihar area of the City on late Saturday night.
On coming to know about the incident, the family members informed the police. Police rushed to the spot and initiated an investigation.Rambabu Singh, a resident of Hanumant Vihar Yogendra Vihar, was a grocery shopkeeper.
He is survived by wife Meera and two sons. Family members told investigators that a murder case was registered against Rambabu at Bidhnoo police station in 2003. In the same case, four accused were convicted from the sessions court, Kanpur Nagar.
However, he was out of jail on appeal. Three months ago, he had received a notice, wherein he was intimated that the file pertaining to the murder case has been opened again in the High Court. Rambabu was however reeling under depression as hearing regarding the same was due on September 12.On Saturday night, he, however, committed suicide by hanging himself in his room. After the incident came to light, the family members of the deceased alerted the police. Police rushed to the spot, and after preliminary investigation, sent the body for post-mortem. Police station in-charge Abhilash Mishra said that the deceased was accused in a murder case.
