Dumka: A team from the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) will visit Dumka on Monday to take stock of the situation following the murder of two minor girls in the district in a matter of two weeks.
The NCPCR on Sunday wrote to deputy commissioner Ravishankar Shukla and SP Ambar Lakda, directing them to ensure that proper arrangements are made for its team’s visit.
The team, led by its president Priyank Kanoongo, will have a meeting with the DC, SP, investigating officers of both the cases and the doctors who conducted the autopsies, besides meeting the bereaved families.
On Saturday, a 14-year-old tribal girl was found dead and hanged from a tree by the police. A post-mortem examination revealed that the teenager was carrying a four-month foetus, when she was possibly strangulated and hanged from a tree. Police said a man from another community had abused her and failed to keep his promise of marrying her.
The accused, who worked as a mason at a local construction site, has been arrested. Police did not disclose his identity.
On the other hand, a 17-year-old girl was charred to death by her stalker, who belonged to a minority community. The accused, Shahrukh, is in judicial custody.
Opposition BJP has announced to provide financial assistance to the tribal girl’s family. “BJP stands by the girl’s family and will work to provide Rs 30 lakh to her kin,” Godda MP Nishikant Dubey said on Sunday.
BJP leader and Dhanwar MLA Babulal Marandi on Sunday met the tribal family.
Following his meeting, Marandi said, “The government’s appeasement politics and free run to a particular community has now put even the tribals, especially the Santhals, here under threat. We have been demanding action against DSP Noor Mustafa whose role as an anti-Hindu and anti-tribal official had come under the scanner after the murder of the 17-year-old girl. Unfortunately, the government hasn’t taken him to task yet.”
