GURUGRAM: Proposed by the MP and backed by the CM, the proposal to build an elevated road between Hero Honda Chowk and the Umang Bhardwag Chowk has now been scrapped by the government, which has directed NHAI to go back to the original plan for a flyover.

In June, Gurugram MP and Union minister Rao Inderjit Singh pitched for construction of an elevated road instead, citing demands by RWAs and industrial associations. Chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar gave "in-principle" approval to the elevated road and recommended that it be further "examined" before a final decision.
NHAI officials told TOI they were informed by the GMDA this month that the elevated road plan will not go ahead. "We received a letter from the GMDA around a fortnight ago informing us that the government of Haryana has scrapped the proposal to make an elevated flyover, and to undertake construction as per the original plan for the area," said a senior NHAI official familiar with the matter.
GMDA officials did not respond to requests for comment.
An aide of the MP said they did not know about the latest development. "We are not aware of the proposal being scrapped entirely, but if that is the case, we will once again try to approach Union minister Nitin Gadkari regarding the matter," he said.
The revamp project is part of a broader plan to ease traffic congestion between Hero Honda Chowk and the Dwarka Expressway. The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) is responsible for work on the other section, from Umang Bhardwaj Chowk to the expressway (construction on this portion is set to be completed by September).
Work along the Hero Honda Chowk-Umang Bhardwaj Chowk route has been pending for years.
NHAI was originally supposed to begin construction in 2019, but it decided to combine this with another project to build a highway between Pataudi and Rewari. After that, it was supposed to start work by November 2021, but the authority is yet to be allotted land.
Now, the highways authority is hoping to meet the November 2023 deadline, though the land issue persists.
"The land required for the work has to be handed over to us by the Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP). Until the land is given, we cannot begin work," said the official quoted above.
"If we get the land quickly, we can still meet the November 2023 deadline for the project since we intend to take up this work on priority," he said.
When asked, HSVP (Gurugram) estate officer-1Vikas Dhanda said there were obstructions along the route, some of which had been removed, and a meeting with the GMDA was scheduled to discuss the remaining ones on September 5.
Some other agencies too are involved, he said.
"An alternative site for a CNG pump has been earmarked. Its owner has been asked to buy the land in an auction and shift the CNG station. The electricity substation on the alignment will be dealt with by the DHBVN. The water tank is related to MCG. Around 2.5 acres of Himgiri Ashram also fall on the alignment, and HSVP has taken up the issue. On the opposite side, the boundary wall of HSVP sectors comes into alignment. We will remove the boundary wall when NHAI starts the work," said Dhanda.
