BENGALURU: Over the last week, travel time for Bengalureans has shot up by an average 30%, with some areas recording 62% more commute time than non-rainy days. This was revealed in a study by SaaS-based office commute platform MoveInSync.
"Average time to reach home from office, which was around 42 minutes in February, has gradually increased to 60 minutes, as more employees are returning to work. However, beginning of August witnessed the number spike to 75 minutes-plus, indicating the combined impact of return to work and rain," the report said.
While rain caused significant deluge in Bengaluru, the study reported day-wise differences in commute time across the city during a downpour between 5pm and 8pm. It showed Tuesdays and Wednesdays recording a 20-minute spike on average. "Mondays remain the best day to travel to and from work," the report said.
It added time taken to return to home from offices in Bellandur recorded the largest spike (62%) during rain. While travel from Whitefield saw 48% increase in time, at 102 minutes it remained the longest commute in the city during rain. Kadubeesanahalli and Mahadevapura recorded third and fourth highest spikes: 45% and 33%.
