PRAYAGRAJ: Four prominent crossings of the old city area, known for regular traffic congestions and haphazard parking, will now get a makeover on the lines of Delhi's Chandni Chowk.
As per the plan, LED screens will be installed at Sulaki crossing, Ram Bhuvan crossing, Chandralok and Mansarovar crossings of Chowk.
They will be beautified with facade lighting and Shiva Stuti and Bhajans will be broadcast on the public-address system.
As part of the beautification plan, state cabinet minister Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi along with vice chairman of Prayagraj Development Authority (PDA), Arvind Singh Chauhan and municipal commissioner Chandra Mohan Garg visited the area on Friday.
The minister instructed officials to prepare a proposal and send the same to the state government.
The minister also said the proposal should be such that the entire area around the ancient 'Siddha manokamana' temple could be painted in the colour associated with Lord Shiva.
The minister asked officers to make a holistic plan that encapsulates both spirituality and culture.
After being developed on the lines of Chandni Chowk, the four intersections would be rid of traffic congestion and allow public to shop as well as gorge on local delicacies available in the area.
Nandi also directed officials to get rid of the cobweb of overhead power cables.
"Prayagraj is a city of religion and faith and whenever any person would pass through the old city or stay here, then he or she should have a feeling of spirituality. Keeping this in mind, the proposal of the old city should be made. From scenes related to the stories of Lord Shiva and other deities should be painted on the walls," he said. The minister also directed officials for beautification of Moti Park at Sulaki crossing.
He directed officials for reconsideration of a multilevel parking. Officials accompanying him said the PWD, municipal corporation and electricity department have prepared their action plan.
