Jaipur: In a first, not only forensic scientists, but even forensic medicine doctors will help investigating agencies in cracking reports on DNA fingerprinting in criminal cases.
As per the state government’s latest amendment to the CrPC, a doctor’s report on DNA fingerprinting, or DNA profiling, will be acceptable in a court, which earlier was limited to only forensic science laboratory reports.
DNA fingerprinting provides breakthrough evidence for the investigating agencies, but a lot of samples are pending for tests, so, the state government roped in forensic medicine doctors to help forensic scientists to speed up investigations in criminal cases.
Rajasthan is the first state where DNA fingerprinting will be done at medical colleges, and these will be used as evidence in a court in criminal cases.
