Nagpur: “India is growing in a rapid way as its economy has expanded. With economic power comes diplomatic clout. Indians in general and Indian diplomats in particular will have a prime role in the multilateral diplomatic arena of the UN and other international organizations,” said AM Gondane, a retired Indian Foreign Officer, on Saturday.
He was speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of the 5th edition of Cenmun 2022, the grand event being hosted by Centre Point School, Wardhaman Nagar. The Times of India is the print partner.
More than 650 participants from different schools in Nagpur and other places will take part in the mega event.
“The last two years have been difficult for us. But without losing our hearts, we took up the online mode as an alternative to conduct Cenmun Junior and Cenmun Senior in 2021 with over 350 delegates putting their thoughts together,” said Kanchan Ukey, principal of Centre Point School.
“CENMUN, since its very beginning, has grown to set a benchmark of quality and widespread recognition. I have been involved with the conference since 2018, first as a delegate and later as a member of the secretariat. This year, too, my team and I vow to leave no stone unturned in achieving the best in all aspects for CENMUN,” said Abhinav Somani, Secretary General of Cenmun 2022.
Predicaments to panacea: ‘A Glocal Effort’ is the theme for CENMUN 2022. Delegates will be reflecting on rooted issues and their substantive solutions. The agendas will enable delegates to learn how to get back on their feet after the outbreak of a global health crisis, while encouraging critical thinking skills and emphasising peace, harmony, and international security. Focusing on different agendas, there were 14 committees, including All India Political Parties’ Meet (AIPPM) who conducted the discussion on the places of Worship Act,1991.
MUN is a debate platform where students are given certain global issues to talk on. CPS students have put in their best efforts to make this programme one of the biggest MUNs in Central India.
Earlier, the programme began with the introduction of guests followed by a lamp lighting ceremony. The school choir welcomed the delegates and guests with a welcome song. A welcome dance was presented by students. This being the fifth edition of Cenmun, previous achievements were displayed. The opening ceremony concluded on an energetic note and the delegates were charged up for the upcoming two days to give their presentations.
