BHOPAL: A 28-year-old Karni Sena leader was stabbed to death by a gang of three in Itarsi area of Narmadapuram district on Friday night.
The victim, Rohit Singh Rajput, was the town secretary of Karni Sena. He was attacked in a busy area, right in front of the municipality office on Surajganj Road. Rajput’s friend Sachin Patel was also stabbed when he tried to save him. They were taken to a private hospital where Rajput was declared dead. Patel is in critical condition.
Police said Rajput and Patel were standing in the town’s main market area when three men came on bikes and began arguing with them around 8.30pm. One of them suddenly pulled out a knife and stabbed Rajput repeatedly with a knife.
The stabbing took place in full public view. A passerby recorded the crime and circulated it on social media.
On Saturday afternoon, local residents and members of Karni Sena staged a protest, demanding action against the accused. They also asked police to parade them on the street.
Three suspects — Rahul Rajput, Ankit Bhat and Ishu Malviya — were arrested and paraded to court. Ankit’s house was demolished by the administration. Police suspect an old rivalry is the likely motive for the attack.
